Hello. My name is Esther Cowan.
I offer high quality childcare in a welcoming and warm home setting. (Ringmer, East Sussex). When we meet, I like to tailor my practice to meet the needs of your individual child. Parents that know me, relate to me as flexible, friendly, inclusive and accommodating and very caring. I aim to match each child’s home routine so they feel secure and comfortable in my home.
I am hoping to maintain a pattern of 4 full days per week. Please discuss your particular needs with me as I am willing to accommodate if I can.
Working closely with parents I develop strong relationships with them and their children. Friendships are an important feature of my environment and time is taken to make sure each child feels part of our friendship circle both in my home and as we venture out. Your child will experience a fun, happy and fulfilled day if they spend time with me, and other young children, in my home.
I am a qualified Early Years Professional/ Teacher (EYP/T) with over 15 years experience in a range of early childhood settings including an international school, UK preschools and a kindergarten class room. When my children were young, I enjoyed my work as a registered and accredited childminder for many years in London and Surrey.
My recent experience is as a room leader/ teacher in a Brighton nursery for the past four years. During this time, I have nurtured special relationships with many young children and their families. I have benefitted from working with a close-knit staff team and enjoyed shared practise. I aim to continue working alongside other childcare professionals as there are many network groups and other child-care providers, and friendly settings that we visit during the week.
I am married to Ralph and we now have two grown up daughters.
My own practice is flexible to include an open-ended approach with a mix of old fashioned play, using toys that children love to play with and resources that follow their interests and suit their individual needs.

The activity room is on the side of the house and is a dedicated play and learning space. There is direct access from the activity room to the outdoors through sliding patio doors which lead to the rest of the garden along the path.
We use the garden daily whenever we can if we don't go on an outing. During child- led play the children free flow in and out to the garden. I encourage the children to bring rain suits (all in ones) and wellies in order to use the garden in all weathers to enjoy exploratory experiences.
We may sometimes choose to eat in the outdoors and use it for a variety of other activities such as snack picnic time, story and song times, painting and clay table activities, ‘messy play’ and sensory activities, construction and 'camping'.
